A finish earned the hard way

Kid McCoy knocked out Joe Choynski in the fifteenth round at the New Broadway Athletic Club, adding a second stoppage victory to his ASN account. The Kid is now 2–0, with two knockout wins; Choynski begins his ASN replay record at 0–1.

This was no procession. McCoy claimed the opening round on every card and collected a unanimous 10–8 in the third. Choynski answered with the fifth and sixth, then took the eighth unanimously. After eight rounds, one judge had McCoy ahead, one favoured Choynski and the third card was level.

McCoy won the ninth and tenth on all three cards. Choynski came back again, sweeping the eleventh and twelfth. Through twelve, McCoy led two judges by 115–112 and 114–113; the third still preferred Choynski, 114–113. The Kid had the better position, but the argument remained open.

The thirteenth and fourteenth both went unanimously to McCoy. That gave him leads of 135–130, 134–131 and 133–132 entering the fifteenth. Then the knockout settled what the cards had not yet finished.

The saved game ending is labelled “Uppercut Under the Guard.” Round fifteen was not scored. The official result is a knockout, with no exact time within the round supplied.

ASN RINGSIDE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT

A star is beginning to take shape

McCoy opened ASN’s permanent sporting record by knocking out Peter Maher in round eight on January 1. That performance earned him the first Historic Player of the Week honour. He has now followed it with a second victory over another established name.

Two fights remain a small foundation. But the Kid has already supplied an opening chapter, an award-winning performance and a successful return. The case for ASN’s first boxing star has substance: two appearances, two wins, two knockouts. His next opponent will have more than an unbeaten record to challenge.

About this ASN replay

The owner’s accepted KEEPER export was checked against all fifteen recorded rounds using Fight Card Boxing. McCoy’s original supplied card was retained; Choynski used the ASN creator-derived career card approved by the owner before play. That estimate is not separately designer approved and is not a January 1900 form rating.

OPEN is the ASN replay category. The historical contracted weight and title status are unverified. The recorded 10–8 third round does not establish a knockdown count. Punch totals and exact stoppage time were not supplied. Historical results did not determine this replay’s outcome.
